Wave spectrum, Hs, Tp, current and the rolling motion prediction
The system is easy to understand: red bars means outside motion limit, green bars inside limit. For the traffic light:
Green means operations can start and be completed safely.
Orange means out of limit motions soon, finish the operation at hand, don’t start a next one.
Red means motions are outside the safe limits wait for the next safe window.
The counter indicates the seconds left until the next traffic light state. The prediction horizon is up to 3.5 minutes ahead.
Execute the critical steps in your operations safely.
Motion Severity Index
Based on any chosen combination of motions in the 6 Degrees of Freedom.
Predictions are made for each one of 6 degrees of freedom (DOF): heave, surge, sway, roll, pitch and yaw. On the motion prediction tab in the user interface, the predictions and the measured motions are shown to indicate the match (correlation).
The predictions for each of these 6 DOF can be combined in the ‘Motion Severity Index’ (MSI). This index is defined for the points of interest relevant for your operations on your vessel. The rolling timeline of red and green bars on the decision support thereby correspond to the true mechanical limits of your operation.
Decision based on the motions and accelerations that matter.
System requirements
To operate the WavePredictor, the following components are required:
- X-Band radar (dedicated radar is recommended)
- System hardware (supplied)
- Vessel RAO
- Internet connection (remote support only)
In many cases, the system can also use your existing X-Band navigation radar. Contact us to verify compatibility or learn more about the dedicated radar solution offered by Next Ocean.
Operational requirements
For reliable predictions, the following operating conditions apply:
- Significant wave height Hs ≥1.0 m
- Peak period 6 s < Tp < 15 s
- Wind speed ≥ 3 Bft
- Vessel operating on DP or low speed
- Free radar view towards the incoming wave direction
